I just have to share my thoughts with you regarding the people on Facebook and Twitter who write things like "Yesterday there were 2000 Kenyans killed in a bomb attack, where is media?" or "There were a terror attack on Beirut a few days ago, why is no one changing their profile picture to the Lebanese flag?" or "As soon as a Western country is exposed to terrorism the whole world suddenly cares while whenever it happens anywhere else in the world no one gives a damn, tack about double standards". Let me tell you one thing, humans are egoistical creatures. We do not care much about others/events that does not directly affect us. What happened in New York on september 11, 2001, was awful, but personally I cared more when my dog died than what I did when 9/11 took place. Why? Because I had no personal connection at all to what happened there. It is the same thing now, Paris is a European city, it is close to Sweden, there are many Swedes living here and since it happened here, why could it not happen in Stockholm? or Malmö? Or in another big city in Europe? I was incredibly distressed by what happened here because Paris is the city I live in, it happened on the streets I walk on, it happened on an open-air restaurant where I could have been sitting, it happened in a concert hall where I could have been listening to my favorite band playing. That does not mean what happened in Beirut and Kenya is any less awful, because it is as terrible as to what happened here, but like I said, it is hard to give a damn when one does not have any personal connection to the event. So to all you blaming people for not caring enough about "the rest of the world" just stop, and let them mourn over what happened in Paris.
