MAISONTIERS 7-21 AUGUSTI

After we had been in Balleroy for about a week it was time to head to Maisontiers, where my host mom's parents live! She had told me that they live in a castle, and I thought that it must be a pretty small one, but oh so wrong I was! They live in a gigantic castle with huge moats around the whole building. The castle has been in the family since 1546 when there was a wealthy woman who bought it and renovated it, and then it has been passed down on the daughters. It has been renovated several times since then, but it felt like one was sent back a few centuries when being inside this castle. There are lots of old artworks and sculptures, and then there is a set of beautiful china in the dining room from Napoleon himself! My host mom's far back relatives once got it from him, and there is even a painting of him and Napoleon in one of the rooms, so interesting and cool! We were in Maisontiers for about two weeks, and during this time I had no internet, so during my free time I was reading a lot, mostly books in English, but I tried some in French too. The grandparents were so nice, and surprisingly good at English! Of course I tried to speak as much French as possible with them out of courtesy though, On the 21st the vacation was over and we returned to Rueil-Malmaison. I have to say I got to see so much of France during these weeks and that I am very grateful for!
